May 04 – We Shall Overcome!
“Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.” (Numbers 13:30)
A person of faith thinks in terms of victory. One who trusts in God walks boldly toward triumph. A praying person can even command mountains to move and be cast into the sea.
Among the twelve leaders sent by Moses to spy out Canaan, ten focused only on defeat. They saw the giants—but failed to see the greatness of the Lord who rules over heaven and earth.
But Joshua and Caleb saw the land differently. They saw it as a land they could conquer. Their faith and devotion to God shaped their vision.
Even today, we see two kinds of believers: One group fears the power of Satan and trembles. Another group looks to Jesus and proclaims victory boldly.
There were times when Israel faced overwhelming odds. Once, thirteen nations rose up against them. Israel had about six million people, while their enemies numbered in the hundreds of millions. Humanly speaking, it was impossible. Yet Israel chose to think victory, speak victory, and they obtained victory.
Even today, some say: “Christian life is too hard.” “Standing firm till the end is rare.” “Winning souls is difficult.” But others boldly declare: “We will overcome in Jesus’ name!” “There will be revival in India!” “We will win this nation for the Lord!” Which group do you belong to?
In the days of Canaan, the majority spread a negative report—ten out of twelve! But the minority carried faith.
Dear child of God, stay close to: those who speak great things in the Lord’s name, those who are bold and courageous, those who proclaim victory, those who testify that Jesus is alive. When you walk with such people, you will not be shaken.
When Nehemiah rose to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, there were many who tried to discourage him. But others stood with courage—holding a sword in one hand and building with the other. And the wall was completed according to God’s plan.
Even today, God’s Kingdom is being built. Are you standing with those who rise up in faith? Or with those who complain and discourage?
Verse for further meditation: “Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:57)
