Apr 28 – Questions!
“And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor from that day on did anyone dare question Him anymore.” (Matthew 22:46)
In life, many people murmur and raise questions before God. They ask: Why did this happen to me? Why did I fail? Why don’t I have a job? Why did my child die? and many other such questions.
For some people, life itself becomes a question mark. They keep asking themselves anxiously, What will my future be like?
Many of life’s questions cannot be answered here on earth. Only when we enter the Kingdom of God will we receive answers to all our questions.
A devoted Bible scholar named F. J. Dake once began counting all the questions in the Bible. He discovered 2,272 questions in the Old Testament and 1,022 questions in the New Testament, and he listed them all in the Dake’s Annotated Reference Bible.
Among these are different kinds of questions:
- General questions
- Questions people asked each other
- Questions God asked humans
- Questions humans asked God
The first question in the Bible was a deceptive one asked by Satan. To create doubt about God, he asked Eve:
“Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” Even today, many questions come to test us. If we are not careful, such questions may lead us into temptation and cause us to stray from the right path.
The first question God asked man was: “Adam, where are you?” (Genesis 3:9). God asked this with a grieving heart, seeking to draw back the man who had gone far from Him. Even today, God asks you the same question: Where are you? What is the condition of your soul? Let this question bring you back into fellowship with God. Decide to return to your first love.
The first question man asked God was: “Am I my brother’s keeper?” (Genesis 4:9). Cain asked this boldly after mercilessly killing his own brother. Because of this, he brought many curses upon himself.
Today many questions may arise in your heart. Like King David, you may ask: “Lord, how long will You forget me?”
At times we ask questions of our heavenly Father like children speaking to a loving parent. But we must never complain or murmur.
Children of God, there are answers to your questions. In His time, the Lord will reveal them to you.
Verse for further meditation: “He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honour him.” (Psalm 91:15)
