Jan 5 – HAPPINESS IN BROTHERS’ FELLOWSHIP!

“When he sees you, he will be glad in his heart” (Exodus 4:14). “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” (Psalm 133:1).

When Aaron came to meet Moses, God said, “He is also coming out to meet you. When he sees you, he will be glad in his heart.” Is it not natural for two persons to rejoice, when they get an opportunity to meet, on being the children of the same Heavenly Father, after getting their thirst quenched by the same love of Calvary and after being filled with the same Spirit? Yes. There is happiness in the fellowship of brothers.

That day, Aaron rejoiced as he met Moses and in the same way, Elizabeth rejoiced when she met Mary, the mother of Jesus. That happiness of hers did not stop with her, but it also touched the baby in her womb. The Scripture says, “…and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth. And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leapt in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit” (Luke 1:40, 41).

When the children of God extend wishes to each other, when they stand together with hands joined, the whole of their hearts rejoices. How sweet is the fellowship of the brothers! How great it is! Love and joy swelled in the heart of Aaron as he met Moses. He did not stop with meeting Moses but went near Moses and kissed him (Exodus 4:27). The happiness in the hearts of those who watched them kissing also might have swelled. Is it not? Paul the Apostle writes, “Greet one another with a holy kiss” (Romans 16:16).

The main shortfall seen among the Christians today is nothing but dearth of love. May it be believers or servants of God, their hearts do not rejoice when they come to meet each other. In the name of church affiliation, they hate one another. Citing the differences in preaching the Word of God, they value others cheaply.  They acquire spiritual pride and look down upon other fellow brothers with contempt.

When you come to church to worship God, you meet several brothers and sisters. On meeting them, we attain ecstasy. Though born in different places and brought up in a different atmosphere, all become one family when we come nearer to the Cross. The same blood of Calvary has redeemed all of you. The same Spirit has quenched the thirst of all. Dear children of God, is not the Heavenly Father the same to you all?

To meditate: “But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him” (Luke 15:20).
