Dec 30 – DELIGHT OVER THE LAW!

“Unless your law had been my delight, I would then have perished in my affliction” (Psalm 119:92).

Recently, a reader had listed out all the incidences which he had experienced in his tragic path. He had noted down the sickness he faced, the poverty in the family, the treacherous acts of the community, and death of the near and dear and other several sad things, in the list. Finally, he had written, “If the Bible had not been my mental joy, I might have immersed in sorrows.” Yes. The Scripture consoles you with the Word of God. It heals your wounds. It makes a new life blossom in you.

When you eagerly open the Bible, you make direct contact with several great devotees who lived in this world. The faith in Abraham makes you wonder. You also try to walk equally with God as Enoch did. When you look at Moses, you plead God to give you his humility and calmness.

What a big patience Job had! David praised God through singing and dancing in front of the Ark of the Covenant. It looks as though everything happened just now. How correctly Isaiah matched God and remained as a prophet to God of Most High! How consoling his words are! “The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes” (Psalm 19:8).

What is the experience of Jeremiah, the prophet? “Your words were found and I ate them and your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart” (Jeremiah 15:16). The reason why the Word of God brings in joy is that it contains Spirit and life. The Psalmist writes, “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul” (Psalm 19:7).

Dear children of God, do not only read the Scripture but also meditate and rejoice in them. The cattle graze the grass. It looks as though they are in a hurry while grazing, but, after grazing, they go to some other place and ruminate casually. Only when they do this, the food they have consumed gives them strength.

David says, “May my meditation be sweet to Him; I will be glad in the Lord” (Psalm 104:34). Meditating further and further gives him happiness. He says that he rejoices at His Word as one who finds the treasure (Psalm 119:162).

To meditate: “For you, Lord, have made me glad through your work; I will triumph in the works of your hands” (Psalm 92:4).
