Dec 23 – YOU ARE THE LIGHT!

“You are the light of the world” (Mathew 5:14).

The house where Mr. Abraham Lincoln, the former President of the USA lived is located in a place called Springfield. Presently, the government has taken possession of that house and had converted it into a Museum. At present, the house glitters with several lights, and looks attractive.

A person was crossing that house along with his little daughter. The girl looked at the former President’s home and told her father, “Father, has Abraham Lincoln forgotten to switch off the lights? Why are the lights burning, even after his death?” These words of the daughter touched the heart of her father.

Yes. A Christian shines both when he is alive as well as when he is dead. When the children of God are with life, they shine as a witness to God. Even after they die, their lamp never gets extinguished.

Dear children of God, you are the light to the world. “….in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life” (Philippians 2:15, 16). As such, you need to protect your light. Jesus said, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Mathew 5:16).

Oil is required for a lamp to spread out light. It is also essential that a portion of the wick should remain immersed in the oil. Similarly, when a believer wants to remain as a burning lamp and give light to others, he needs the filling of the Holy Spirit, which is the oil. Also, the wick which is his heart should be immersed in the Holy Spirit and should be in a never-ending relationship with it. Then, his life will glitter.

We see David pray saying “Lord, lift the light of your countenance upon us” (Psalm 4:6). “Make your face shine upon your servant; save me for your mercies sake” (Psalm 31:16).

Look at the moon. Though it has no light of its own, continues to move around following the sun, receives its light and reflects it. Dear children of God, your life will also glitter if you establish deep fellowship with God, who is the son of righteousness, through fasting and prayer.

To meditate: “They looked to Him and were radiant, and their faces were not ashamed” (Psalms 34:5).
