Dec 20 – LIGHT MY LAMP!
“For you will light my lamp; the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness” (Psalm 18:28).
We read in this portion of the Scripture, David praying with love, “Light my lamp, Lord. Let the darkness in me become bright, Father. Help me Lord so that my life stays a blessing to others.” How wonderful it is for one to pray to God to light his lamp! When big factories are dedicated to the nation, by the President or any Ministers, they lit a lamp.
That lamp makes the brightness spread throughout the factory. At that moment, the people around clap their hands and express their happiness. The brightness of the lamp symbolizes the beginning of a prosperous future. Man invented several types of lamps to clear the darkness. He invented lamps which burn with the fat of animals as fuel. He created candles. He invented kerosene lamps. Presently, there are electrical lamps which remove darkness and emit light.
Dear children of God, you may look up to God. He resolved to provide brightness to the whole world. The Scripture says that in the beginning, there was nothing on the earth, and darkness covered the ocean. When God saw darkness encroaching the whole world, He said, “Let there be light.” He lighted the lamps. The sun, moon and the stars were the lamps God created to provide brightness to the world. These lamps remove the darkness and illuminates the entire earth.
But look at how David prays. When he prays saying “Light my lamp, Lord”, he means his heart. When the darkness of the sins surrounds the heart, the soul also gets surrounded by utter darkness. The darknesses of the sins and that of the curses catch hold of the heart.
Whichever man lives in sins and wickedness deviates away from God, the son of righteousness. Darkness catches hold of his life. The Scripture says “But your iniquities have separated you from your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He will not hear” (Isaiah 59:2).
Dear children of God, when you hide God, the sun of righteousness with your sins, darkness encompasses you preventing God’s light from illuminating your life. It is essential for you to pray to God saying “Light my lamp”, report your sins to Him and reconcile with Him.
To meditate: “The spirit of a man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all the inner depths of his heart” (Proverbs 20:27).
