Dec 19 – BE WATCHFUL!
“But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into” (Mathew 24:43).
The Scripture is repeatedly counselling people to be watchful. Since there is a person as thief, it becomes imminent for one to be careful. Since the enemy is walking about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour, it is essential for you to be watchful.
A family was travelling in high speed in the early morning towards Cape Comorin with the intension to reach there in time to witness the sunrise. Since the tired driver slept off for a fraction of a second, there was a big accident, and all the family members died on the spot. The driver not vigilant during the drive was the cause of the accident. That is why the Scripture cautions to be cautious. You have to be careful to protect your holiness in life. Satan is continuously trying to create stains and bemishes in your spiritual life. Once the life of witness gets spoiled, it is impossible to set things right again. “But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct” (I Peter 1:15).
A pastor raised a big spiritual church. It grew well and acquired name and fame in a few years. But, the pastor failed to protect the holiness in his personal life and an illicit relationship made him lose his holiness.
Finally, he was sacked as a pastor there, and one who had helped the church to become huge for several years was not even able to preach there. His situation became very pathetic. So, one needs to be watchful in spiritual life.
The Scripture says, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” (I Peter 5:8).
Be watchful also in prayer. Never despise prayerful life. Jesus said, “So be ready all the time. Pray that you will be able to get through all these things that will happen and stand safe before the Son of Man” (Luke 21:36).
Dear children of God, watchful life alone will be a victorious one. If you are careful, Satan could never come near you. If you remain watchful, you will be happy moving forward to meet the bridegroom.
To meditate: “Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober” (I Thessalonians 5:6).
