Dec 17 – (THEY) WORKED RIGHTEOUSNESS!

“Who through faith…worked righteousness” (Hebrews 11:33).

You are the ones called to practise righteousness. Your deeds should be righteous ones. Faith and work should go together, and if not, that faith would be of no use. “Faith without works is dead” says the Scripture.

Take, for example, electricity. It will not be of any use to others if it is kept unused. When we use electricity, the switches are on, the bulbs burn, and the fans also function. Big factories commence their productions, and new products come out of them. It is the same with the faith too.

When faith and prayer combine toother, it will be possible to gain souls for God. One who has faith will never be lazy. Jacob writes, “What does it profit, my brethren if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? Thus also faith by itself if it does not have works, is dead” (James 2:14, 17).

Let your works be ones to work righteousness and ones to glorify the righteous God. The Scripture says that God is known as our righteousness (Jeremiah 23:6). You become righteous by receiving it from God with faith. How blessed this is! What would have been your position if God had not been your righteousness? How will you work the righteousness in the world?

Isaiah says, “…all our righteousness are like filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6). Job, the devotee asks “Truly I know it is so, but how can a man be righteous before God?” (Job 9:2). “What is man, that he could be pure? And he who is born of a woman, that he could be righteous?” (Job 15:14). “Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight” (Romans 3:20). The Scripture says, “There is none righteous, no, not one” (Romans 3:10).

Christ alone stays as your righteousness. He alone has subjected you to righteousness and has made you righteous. The Scripture says, “…a man is justified by faith” (Romans 3:28). Your guilty conscience will surely keep on pricking you if you fail to believe that Christ has made you righteous and Satan would overcome you and keep on defeating you.

Dear children of God, when your forefathers led a righteous life with their faith, should you not be made righteous and practice righteousness?

To meditate: “Do you see that faith was working together with his works and by works faith was made perfect?” (James 2:22).
