May 02 – Victory over Sickness!
“For I am the LORD who heals you.” (Exodus 15:26)
The Lord desires that His children should have victory over sickness. Our bodies were created by God, and Jesus has already borne our sicknesses and weaknesses on the cross. Therefore, we do not have to struggle under sickness. Let us hold on to His promises and overcome!
We pray, “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” There is no sickness in heaven.
During His earthly life, Jesus lived in complete victory over sickness. His ministry—whether preaching, prayer, or fasting—was never hindered by illness or weakness. Sickness never overcame Him. He even touched a leper without hesitation, yet the leprosy did not affect Him. Instead, healing flowed from Him. Yes, Jesus willingly took upon Himself our weaknesses and diseases.
You may ask: Why do God’s children sometimes face sickness? One major reason is sin.
When the paralytic was brought to Jesus, before healing him, Jesus said: “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.” (Matthew 9:1–6)
Likewise, when He healed the man who had been sick for thirty-eight years at the pool of Bethesda, Jesus warned him: “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.”
At times, sickness may also come because of the sins or consequences from previous generations. Though some may find this hard to accept, the Bible shows that King David’s sin resulted in his child becoming ill (2 Samuel 12:14–15).
Therefore, in such situations, it is good for us to examine ourselves and ask, “Have I been the cause of harm or suffering to others?” If so, we should confess and set things right. The Bible says: “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed.” (James 5:16)
Some fall into sickness because of greed and love of money. Consider Gehazi, the servant of Elisha. Out of greed, he ran after Naaman and lied to obtain money. As a result, he and his descendants were struck with leprosy. The Bible warns that the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.
Children of God, if you guard yourself so that sin does not enter your life, sickness will not have a hold over you. Walk in holiness and claim the victory Christ has already won.
Verse for further meditation: “He Himself took our infirmities And bore our sicknesses.” (Matthew 8:17)
