JUNE 6 – WE KNOW LOVE!

“By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren” (I John 3:16).

Jesus Christ is one to introduce true love. Further, He is the one to formulate the grammar of love. He revealed the best love by sacrificing His life for our sake saying, “ Greater love has no one than this than to lay down one’s life for his friend” (John 15:13).

Once, a group of scientists who were researching in the South Pole region was caught in a terrible snowfall. The heavy snowfall prevented them from returning to the venue where they stayed. The food they had carried got exhausted leaving only a few pieces of bread. The fear that they might die due to hunger and chillness came into them.

That night, while sleeping, the team leader woke up hearing some noise. When he opened his eyes, he was able to see one of his team members meddling with the bag of another member. He was shocked at this. He felt very sad to see a person stealing from another person’s belonging, and he could not justify such acts though there was hunger all around.

But, within a few minutes, his sadness turned into happiness. Do you know how? In fact, that young scientist was not stealing anything but was placing a few pieces of bread into it. He intended that the sleeping person should have something to eat after waking up. The young scientist loved the fellow scientist so deeply, and he had done this to save him, though the act could cause his own death. With the thought that the scientist who was sleeping might not accept such an offer, the generous scientist choose the sleeping time for the purpose.

On that night, which was terribly cold, the act of that young scientist made the fire burn in the heart of the team leader. He realised that they were able to invent so many things only because of the existence of such sacrificial love among the team. Jesus Christ exhibited incomparable love and sacrifice in His practical life. The icon of that love is the Cross of Calvary.

Dear children of God, as the lover of your soul, has placed His immeasurable love upon you, will you dedicate yourself to His ministry?

To meditate: “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8).
