MAY 20 – WHOLESOME TONGUE!

“…wholesome tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit” (Proverbs 15:4).

Your relatives expect you to have concern in your words. Your children expect you to be with love in the words you speak. Your superiors in your office expect you to be with obedience and faith in your words. But what God expects you is that your life should be holy.

The lips of Isaiah was afflicted with dirt. He says, “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts” (Isaiah 6:5). Immediately, God sent a seraphim and touched his mouth with live coal from the altar. It not only cleansed him from his sins but also exalted him to be a prominent prophet.

In the New Testament, God made all the disciples to assemble in the upper room and anointed them with divided tongues of fire. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues. They spoke the words of both men and angels. They came out with heavenly, holy words. Our God is holy, and so you have to be very cautious over the words you speak. Hannah insisted on this and said, “No one is holy like the Lord,…Talk no more so very proud” (I Samuel 2:2, 3).

If the words coming out from the mother-in-law and the daughter-in-law are dedicated on the altar, one can enjoy heaven on earth itself. Similarly, if the words of the husband and those of the wife in a family remain sweet, we can easily say that life in that family will resemble heaven. Unwanted words are the ones that disrupt the peace form the families.

That is why Paul, the apostle, asks you to make your organs slave to righteousness (Romans 6:19). If at all there is a best way to use your tongue, it is nothing but singing in praise and worshipping God.

Dear children of God, let your tongue announce the glory of God. Let the words from it guide many people into the path of Salvation. Let your words save many people from the clutches of hade and take them in the path of heaven.

To meditate: “Grace is poured upon your lips; therefore God has blessed you forever” (Psalm 45:2).
