APRIL 28 – THINGS TO BE REMEMBERED!

“You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God redeemed you” (Deuteronomy 15:15).

God asks to forget certain things and at the same time, asks us to remember certain other things. You have to forget bitterness and zeal. You have to forget past sins and iniquities. At the same time, you should remember, the love of God and the Salvation He gave after redemption.

‘To keep in remembrance’ gives the meaning ‘not to forget.’ Every year, you remember your birthday and wedding day.  You remember the Easter Sunday every year and rejoice. You always remember Christmas day, greet others, give gifts to others and sing the carol songs. There is another thing which you should always keep in remembrance.

The Scripture says, “You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God redeemed you” Deuteronomy (15:15). Here are two things which you should always remember. One is the agony of the slavery, and the other is the joy of redemption. If one remembers the agony of slavery, it will help one not to go back to it and remain firm in the joy of redemption.

The Israelites remained as slaves in Egypt for around four hundred years. The life of bondage is disgraceful. God asked the people to follow Passover for redeeming them from slavery. Accordingly, each one of them chose a lamb which was without blemish, sacrificed it and put its blood on the doorposts (Exodus 12:5-7). The destroyer did not enter the house which had the sign of blood and proceeded to the Egyptian homes to kill the firstborns. Through this, the children of Israel were able to receive the deliverance.

In the New Testament, Jesus Christ turned as the lamb, sacrificed for us. His blood cleansed us from all our sins and also broke our captivity to sinful habits. It crushed the head of Satan. It broke the curse.

Dear children of God, is it not a necessity for you to keep this love and sacrifice in remembrance forever?

To meditate: “Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us” (I Corinthians 5:7).
