APRIL 27 – HAVE ETERNAL LIFE!

“You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of me” (John 5:39).

One of the blessings received through the Scripture is eternal life. Your life will become perfect in proportion to whatever level you come to know the Scripture through reading and meditating. Go through the life histories of the saints in the Scripture. People like Ezra, Daniel and Timothy loved the Scripture and were perfect in the Scriptural knowledge. Though they lived amid so many oppositions, they remained victorious.

It is easy to get over the sins if the Scripture is retained within your heart. David says, “Your word I have hidden in my heart that I might not sin against you” (Psalm 119:11). “Moreover, by them, your servant is warned, and in keeping them there is great reward” (Psalm 19:11). What will happen to those who do not pay heed to the Scripture and neglect the same? Jesus said, “He who rejects me and does not receive my words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day” (John 12:48).

Fire is one element. It melts the wax and evaporates water but at the same time hardens the clay. The seed is one only. But when it falls in good ground, it gives hundredfold benefits. But when it falls on stony places, the sprout withers away very soon.    In the same way, Scripture is one, but it makes the hearts of some people to rejoice, and at the same time, it hardens those of a few.

Jesus preached the Word. Some people eagerly followed Him. Some people praised and glorified Him on witnessing His miracles. But, some people neglected Him and were in search of an opportunity to kill Him. Word of God is one. How do you approach it when it comes towards you? Do you accept it with eagerness? Or you get involved in unwanted arguments and despise it?

John the apostle writes, “…but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name” (John 20:31). Dear children of God, the Word of God gives you eternal life.

To meditate: “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God” (I John 5:13).
