Mar 27 – MENE, MENE, TEKEL!

“You have been weighed in the balances, and found wanting” (Daniel 5:27).

No one knows, when the balance of God will subject a person for judgment. The sins of some people precede to the final judgment day. Some others receive the verdict while on earth itself.

The judgment of God came upon the king Belshazzar suddenly. He had been drinking and dancing with his wives and other harlots. He defiled the gold and silver vessels brought from the temple of Jerusalem. Further, He also put God to shame by praising the idols made out of silver and gold, bronze and iron. 

At this situation, the fingers of the hand of God wrote, “Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin” (Daniel 5:25). The interpretation for these words is “God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it. You have been weighed in the balances and found wanting. Your kingdom has been divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.” Dear children of God, does your life looks perfect before God or is it lacking? In the Old Testament, “… all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come” (I Corinthians 10:11).

Belshazzar was proud of his fame and belongings, was praising the other gods and he was not pious. Today, are you living with the pride over your worldly things?

Are you slipping away from the reverence? The Scripture says, “For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh” (Philippians 3:3). Those who give more importance to worldly joy and pleasures, defile their bodies by sinning. You have received the glorious treasure in your body which is just an earthen pot and so, you should not defile it.

Some among you are honourable vessels, and others may be dishonourable vessels. The Scripture says, “But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honour and some for dishonour. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honour, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work” (II Timothy 2:20, 21).

Dear children of God, sit at the feet of God and evaluate your ways. To meditate: “Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works” (Revelation 2:5).
