Mar 9 – MARY!

“Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38).

Mary found favour with God and was blessed too among all the women in the Scripture. When you read about her characteristics and meditate, the related incidences edify our lives.  

Mary is a character of grace, chosen by God. She is a character of blessing among the blessed women. She is a vessel of humility, who had offered herself as a slave to God. She is a character of desire who longed to get filled with the Holy Spirit. She is a character of dedication, who had submitted herself as a sacrifice by faith. She is a character of praise, who glorified God with joy. She is a character of meditation, who had everything in control within her.

At the beginning of the Old Testament, sin and curse came into humanity through a woman. That woman was Eve. At the same time, in the New Testament, Mary brought the descendent who would crush the head of Satan. Jesus Christ, who was the blessing of the world, came to the world through her. The life of Mary also remained as one to reveal grace and blessing.

When millions of people are in the world, what was the reason for Mary to find favour in the sight of God? The Scripture says, “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him” (II Chronicles 16:9). “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good” (Proverbs 15:3). “..His eyes behold, His eyelids test the sons of men” (Psalm 11:4).

When the eyes of God looked up to Mary, her characteristics of humility, reverence, and her nature of surrendering as a sacrifice to God attracted Him very much. God gives grace to the humble. Is it not? The Scripture says, “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you” (James 4:10). In the same way, God willed to exalt Mary on seeing her humility.

If you want to be exalted by God, humility is essential for you. Dear children of God, if you humble yourself in the presence of God with a broken and a contrite heart, God will surely exalt you.  To meditate: “I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones” (Isaiah 57:15).
