Dec 4 – DELIGHT!
“His delight is in the fear of the Lord” (Isaiah 11:3).
You, the children of God, remain as the fragrance of Christ. The Scripture mentions several fragrances which should find a place in you. The most important among them is ‘fear of the Lord.’ The Scripture says that it alone is His delight.
The fear of the Lord brings holiness in you. When a man realizes “My God watches me; Nothing is invisible to Him. He even knows what my thoughts are, though He is far away”, he will protect himself from all sins and evils.
‘Fear of the Lord;’ was there in the life of Joseph. It was because of this when his mistress invited him to commit adultery he boldly asked: “How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”
It is the fear of the Lord which made Joseph run away from the sin. He protected his holiness without caring about losing the job and the garments. He was not afraid of the imprisonment which He might have to undergo and ran away to protect his holiness. So you may understand that the Lord honoured Joseph by placing him in the top position in the land of Egypt.
What is the reason behind so many people falling into sins? Why should one implicate others by writing false and fabricated articles? Why should one run to the courts and advocated often? Why should one render false witness? The lack of the fear of the Lord is the answer to all these questions. The Scripture says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge” (Proverbs 1:7). If there is a wisdom to get away from the sins, it begins only from the fear of the Lord. That is the true wisdom.
Indeed, God is with love. Indeed, He is your loving Father. It is also true that He comforts you like a mother. But at the same time, He is a strict disciplinarian. He expects you to fear Him. That is why the Psalmist says, “Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling.”
Dear children of God, it is essential to fear God. When you fear God, you will become a delight to Him. All the blessings, good things and exaltations will come in search of you and embrace you.
To meditate: “The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether” (Psalm 19:9).
