Oct – 15 – FROM THE WATER!
“When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water” (Mathews 3:16).
Jesus Christ is one to leave behind a model for you to follow. He expects you to follow His footsteps. The commands of God may be big or small but is it not the blessing what you, the children of God receive in fulfilling them? Jesus Christ Himself received the baptism by water. Not only that. At the same time, He was also one to baptise through the Holy Spirit and fire.
Explore the Scripture a little. There was heavy rain during the time of Noah. The flood was there all over the world. The whole earth immersed in water and thereby it received the baptism. At that time all old things passed away thus making everything new. The children of Israel got baptised in the Red Sea. The life of slavery came to an end while the life of independence began for them.
The earth became pure through the blood, shed by Jesus Christ. All those who accept this blood turn into new creations. When the disciples fasted and prayed in the Upper Room on the day of Pentecost, the fire of the Holy Spirit was poured on the earth. The world submitted itself to receive the baptism through the fire of the Holy Spirit.
Every child of God should come forward to receive the baptism through water, the blood of Jesus and the anointment of the Holy Spirit. The Scripture says, “And there are three that bear witness on earth: The Spirit, the water and the blood; and these three agree as one” (I John 5:8).
God has kept this in nature too. Take for example, a child is coming out from the womb of its mother as a new creation. The thin membrane in the uterus gives way and water comes out of the amniotic sac. Then the blood comes, then the child with life and spirit comes out. See. The water, blood and spirit have combined there too.
When Jesus Christ was nailed on the Cross, one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear and immediately blood and water came out. Following this, within a few days, the anointment of the Holy Spirit was poured and the child which is the church was born. The past life of the law came to an end and the child which is the New Testament emerged.
Dear children of God, do not forget that you are entering the family of God as a new creation through the baptism of water, the blood of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
To meditate: “For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ” (Galatians 3:27).
