Mar 17 – Chosen in Love !
“For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth” (Deuteronomy 7:6).
The Lord has chosen you for Himself. He has chosen you as His own people! He has chosen you to be adopted as His own children. He has chosen you to share in His glory. He has chosen you to live with Him for all eternity.
How did He choose you? The Bible answers in one clear truth: He chose you in love.
We read in Deuteronomy 7:8 that the Lord chose because He loved and because He would keep the oath which He had sworn. Yes, He chose in love.
The Word of God declares: “To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen” (Revelation 1:5–6).
What a glorious love!
The Lord did not choose you because of your worthiness or your character. He chose you because He set His love upon you. “I have loved you,” says the Lord (Malachi 1:2). “I have loved you with an everlasting love” (Jeremiah 31:3).
He did not choose you because of your good works or your merits. He chose you according to His love and His grace. How sweet is that grace! Grace means the divine favour Christ shows toward those who are undeserving.
Not only by love and grace, but also according to the foreknowledge of the Father, you were chosen.
“Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:2).
When we meditate deeply on this verse, we understand that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit were all involved in choosing you according to divine foreknowledge. Even before the foundation of the world, the Father determined whom He would call into His kingdom.
From your family, from your clan, from your village, from your unique circumstances—according to His foreknowledge, He chose you.
Dear child of God, the Lord knew you beforehand. He chose you deliberately, lovingly, and for eternity.
Verse for further meditation: “Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?” (James 2:5).
