Nov 21 – SANDALWOOD TREES !

“Like valleys that stretch out, like gardens by the riverside, like aloes (sandalwood trees) planted by the Lord, like cedars beside the waters” (Numbers 24:6)

Sandalwood trees are referred to as ‘aloes’ in the Bible. You are like the sandalwood tree planted by the Lord. There are many verses in the Scripture which compares you to an Olive plant, Fig tree and Grape vine. And in today’s verse, the Scripture compares you to a Sandalwood tree. When the sandalwood is rubbed against an abrasive surface, it diffuses an aromatic fragrance. In the same way, you will also diffuse a divine fragrance when you go through trials and tribulations for the Lord.

Sandalwood is very costly among all the trees, and it has unique value and significance, because of its sweet fragrance. Who among us, will not like the fragrance of sandalwood? Sandalwood paste reduces the body temperature and has a refreshing effect with its sweet aroma. Every part of a sandalwood tree; the leaves, the root, even the bark; is useful. The sandalwood oil is made by crushing the bark of the tree. You also should never forget that you should diffuse the sweet aroma of the Gospel for the Lord.

When writing about the fragrance of our Lord Jesus Christ – the Bridegroom; the Psalmist records as follows: “All Your garments are scented with myrrh and aloes and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, by which they have made You glad” (Psalm 45:8). Children of God, what is the fragrance that you should spread around for the Lord?

Firstly, His delight is in the fear of the Lord (Isaiah 11:3). When you fear the Lord and walk according to His commandments, your spiritual life will prosper and you will diffuse an aroma pleasing to the Lord. Therefore, cast aside all things that are not pleasing to the Lord and lead a holy life that will delight the Lord.

Secondly, the Scripture says; “Thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place”. Yes, you should spread around the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.

Thirdly, you should diffuse fragrance of love. The Scripture says; “And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma” (Ephesians 5:2). Every verse in the 1st Corinthians, Chapter 13 speaks and captivates our soul, like the sweet aroma of sandalwood tree. Children of God, when the divine river; the Holy Spirit flows in your life, you shall certainly diffuse sweet-smelling aroma like the sandalwood trees planted by the Lord.

Verse for further meditation: “Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us” (Romans 5:5).
