Nov 18 – WHEN YOU PASS THROUGH THE WATERS !

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you” (Isaiah 43:2).

Moses and all the children of Israel were at the shore of Red Sea. They had the vast Red Sea in front of them and they did not know how to pass through the waters of the sea? It was an impossible task for the Israelites; about two million of them, including the young and the old.

But the Lord divided that vast Red Sea through the rod of Moses. When the Israelites passed through the waters, they could feel the presence of the Lord walking with them. Psalmist David also records his experience as follows: “Then the waters would have overwhelmed us, the stream would have gone over our soul; Then the swollen waters would have gone over our soul” (Psalm 124:4-5). David continues to thank the Lord by saying; “Blessed be the Lord, who has not given us as prey to their teeth”.

The children of Israel also had to cross waters one more time. It was the River Jordan; which overflows all its banks during the whole time of harvest. With its rushing waters, it will sweep away anyone who attempts to cross over. For this reason, it was also called as the River of Death. But do you know what the Israelites did, to cross over that river? They made the priests who bear the ark of the Lord to place their feet in the waters of the Jordan. And the waters of the Jordan were cut off, and stood there as a heap. It is so wonderful to imagine that scenario in your mind. And once the waters stood as a heap, the Israelites walked in all majesty, and crossed River Jordan.

Today, are you tossed around with waters of affliction and shame in your life? The Scripture says; “And though the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your teachers will not be moved into a corner anymore, but your eyes shall see your teachers. Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left” (Isaiah 30:20-21).

There was another water which Elijah and Elisha had to cross. And Elijah had to roll up his mantle and strike the water in order to divide the water, and for them to cross over. That mantle is symbolic of the gifts and the power of the Spirit. You also need the power of the Holy Spirit to cross over the struggles of life. Children of God, the turbulent waters shall not flow over you. Nor shall the struggles of this life overcome you, because the Lord is walking with you.

Verse for further meditation: “You have caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water; but You brought us out to rich fulfilment” (Psalm 66:12).
