Nov 17 – OUT OF THE WATER !

“So, she called his name Moses, saying, “Because I drew him out of the water” (Genesis 2:10).

Moses has a significant and indelible part in the Scripture. Filled with the Spirit of God, he wrote the first five books of the Bible. He lived to an age of one hundred and twenty years. His whole life of one hundred and twenty years, is divided into three parts of forty years each.

In the first forty years, he was called as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, and lived in the palace. Pharaoh’s daughter found him by the side of River Nile, and adopted him as her own son. “And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and deeds” (Acts 7:22).

When Moses was forty years old, he happened to see the burdens and hardship of his people. He saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his brethren, and he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. When Pharaoh heard of this matter, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh and dwelt in the land of Midian; tending the sheep of his father-in-law for the next forty years.

And in the last forty years of his life, Moses led the Israelites from the bondage of Egypt and led them toward the promised land of Canaan. The whole journey proved to be very eventful and unforgettable. The Israelites were led by pillars of cloud and pillars of fire in the sky and by Moses and Aaron on the ground. Moses had two outstanding experiences while leading the Israelites; that of seeing God’s glory (Exodus 33:21), and that of God speaking to him face to face (Exodus 33:9).

Just look at the infancy of Moses, who had such glorious experiences in the later years. His mother tried to save him by making an ark of bulrushes, placing him in the ark which she laid it by the river’s bank. And all of Israelites were liberated from their bondage, because of that mother’s saving action. That ark of reed had space only for the infant Moses – and it saved his life and protected him.

We also read about another ark which protected its people from rising flood waters; it was the ark built by Noah. He built that ark for his whole family, and also for all the animals and birds. And because of that ark, all the eight members of Noah’s family were saved.

And there is yet another ark; the living ark; the ark of Christ Jesus. That is the ark of salvation and it is made of the precious blood shed at the Cross of Calvary. The wounds of our Lord Jesus are the steps to that ark. Children of God, make sure that you are found in that Ark.

Verse for further meditation: “Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him” (Psalm 2:12).
