Mar 16 – The One Who Opens Doors!
“These things says He who is holy, He who is true, ‘He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens.’” (Revelation 3:7)
What kind of God do we worship? He is the One who holds the key of David, who opens and no one can shut, and shuts and no one can open. If He opens a door, no human being can close it. Likewise, if He shuts a door, not even an angel can open it.
The Lord declares: “The key of the house of David I will lay on his shoulder; So he shall open, and no one shall shut; and he shall shut, and no one shall open.” (Isaiah 22:22)
Today there are many types of keys and locks used to open and close the doors of homes. In ancient times, people used very large keys that were carried on the shoulder. If the key of David’s house was so large, imagine the authority it symbolized. Today, Jesus Christ, the Son of David, holds many keys in His hands.
The very first key He opened in our lives is the key of salvation—the forgiveness of sins. Then He gives us the key of divine peace, granting true peace. The third key is eternal life. The fourth is the anointing of the Holy Spirit. He has also opened to us the blessings of divine healing, the gifts of the Spirit, and the fruits of the Spirit.
On one hand, His key opens doors that were once closed to us. Yes, He has opened the door of heaven for us. He has opened the way for fellowship with God. He has opened the door through which our prayers are heard.
At the same time, He has used His keys to shut doors that needed to be closed. He closed the door of death, shut the gates of Hades, and removed the evil powers that stood against us, casting them into darkness. As He declares: “I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.” (Revelation 1:18)
Today He is ready to open a new door for you—a door of blessing. In Persia, He opened a favourable door for Esther. In Babylon, He opened a door of honour for Daniel. For Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, He opened the way out of the fiery furnace. When the apostle Peter was imprisoned, the Lord broke open the prison doors and opened a door of freedom.
Children of God, the Lord desires to open such favourable doors for you as well.
Verse for further meditation: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” (Revelation 3:20)
