JULY 6 – FAITHFULNESS OF DAVID!
“May the Lord repay every man for his righteousness and his faithfulness; for the Lord delivered you into my hand today, but I would not stretch out my hand against the Lord’s anointed” (I Samuel 26:23).
David was faithful in fulfilling the instruction of God “Do not stretch out your hands against those who have been anointed”. Saul had been anointed as king. But he had been ignored for disobeying the Word of God. God willed to withdraw the throne from Saul and give the same to David. But still, David had respect and regard for Saul.
But, Saul chased David for hunting him. Even while David was hiding in hills and caves, Saul continued to go searching for him along with his warriors. But, one day, David was able to reach Saul alone when he was sleeping. He simply went away from there, just taking the spear and jug of water which were by the side of Saul. He did not try to kill Saul. When Abishai wanted to kill Saul, David said, “Do not destroy him; for who can stretch out his hand against the Lord’s anointed, and be guiltless?” (I Samuel 26:9).
On seeing the faithfulness of David, God willed to bless him. David developed day by day. At the appropriate time, he also inherited the reign of Saul. How blessed we would be if we also remain as faithful as David! Never talk evil of the chosen servants of God. Never stretch your hands against them. The Scripture says, “Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies” (Romans 8:33).
Those who place their love on God will never involve in finding fault with the anointed servants of God. They will appreciate the good things seen in them and when any shortfall is noticed, instead of trying to put them to shame will instead kneel down and pray for them fervently with tears. How wonderful was the faithfulness which David had in him!
Solomon saw the faithfulness of David. So, while praying, he said, “You have shown great mercy to your servant David my father, because he walked before you in truth, in righteousness, and uprightness of heart with you; You have continued this great kindness for him, and you have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day” (I Kings 3:6). Dear children of God, be faithful towards God. Get rid of the habit of finding fault with those who have been anointed and be with divine peace and humility.
To meditate: “For the Lord preserves the faithful, and fully repays the proud person” (Psalm 31:23).
