Sep – 22 – TEARS!

“Jesus wept” (John 11:35). This is the smallest verse in the English Bible. Just two words are there in this verse. The love and compassion of God bring tears in His eyes. A servant of God used to sing a song often. It is a heart-melting song beginning with the words “God who cries for me is good.” Among the characteristics of Christ what touches the heart is His compassion. The Scripture says, “Gracious is the Lord and righteous; yes, our God is merciful” (Psalm 116:5). We notice that every time He performed a miracle, He did it with compassion. Yes. He is compassionate. Whenever He met lepers and sick people He was moved with compassion. He empathisedthose people who were like sheep without a shepherd. He was moved with compassion when He saw the body of the son of the widow of Nain. His love did not stop with compassion but He did a miracle too. Many a time, you also show compassion. When someone close to you dies, while others cry, your eyes also shed tears. You also partake in their sorrow and cry. Poet Thiruvalluvar says in one of his poems, “Is there any fastening that can shut in the love? Tears of the affectionate will publish the love that is within.” Tears roll down because of love. Look at Jesus. He is God of gods and Lord of lords. He is the one to create heaven and earth. Just think over how compassionate it would be when tears come out of His eyes. The angels neither cry nor shed tears. Jesus Christ is one who has flesh and blood similar to man and this helps you to understand Him as is your brother, friend and lover. He revealed Heavenly Father’s compassion through His tears. Jesus not only sheds tearswith compassion for you, but also takes your sufferings and adversities in His body. When a young man by the name Saul went to trouble the young believers, God intervened and said, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” see! Our loving God partakes in all our sorrows and troubles. How compassionate He is! Dear children of God, let the tear-shedding compassion of Jesus be in you and it will help you to cry for the souls. Will you pray for the compassion of Christ to come over you? To meditate: “who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death …” (Hebrews 5:7).
