APRIL 30 – ROOT OF THE RIGHTEOUS

“A man is not established by wickedness, but the root of the righteous cannot be moved” (Proverbs 12:3).

Look at the tree. There are visible and invisible parts in it. The leaves, flowers and fruits are visible in a tree. The fruits and flowers make you happy. But, you do not think of the invisible roots. It is the root which carries all the nutrients to the tree from the soil. It provides the necessary water to the leaves. The root is the one which gives taste to the fruits. Only the root in a tree helps it to stand erect.

The roots not only give food to the trees, but they provide protection and strength. When a violent storm blows, the branches will swing from side to side, but the roots keep the tree intact. If the roots are not deep and strong, the tree will fall. Solomon the wise says that the root of the righteous cannot be moved (Proverbs 12:3). The depth of the root like heart of the righteous, is attached to the Holy Spirit. It is because of this it remains strong.

Dear children of God, similar to the trees, there are visible and invisible areas of privacy also in your life. If you maintain contact with Jesus Christ in your personal life and get involved in deep prayer life, you will never be shaken. Even when the storm of sorrows blow or the cyclone of problems blow, you will remain unshaken in your Spiritual life.

When prayer is minimal in your life, you would be like the fallen trees on the way side, uprooted by the cyclone. The decrease in prayer is the cause for the falling down of many believers and servants of God. The secret behind a tree yielding tasty fruits big in number lies on its roots.

The Scripture points out another deep secret about the root. “If the root is holy, so are the branches” (Romans 11:16). Here, the roots point out man’s intentions and thoughts. It is only from the thoughts which are the roots, the words come out through the tongue. The heart thinks and the lips speak. If the thought is pure, the words and deeds will also be pure.

Dear children of God, let your words and deeds be holy. You also will become useful to many.

To meditate: “But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever” (Psalm 52:8).
