Mar 14 – RAIN AND WORD OF GOD!

“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, So shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth” (Isaiah 55:10, 11).

In this Scripture portion, the rain and Word of God, are compared. What a beautiful parable this is! Is there a bigger blessing in the world than the rain?

In a village, there was no rain for six years. Since there were no agricultural activities, many people had to move out of that village. If sufficient rain had been there, it might have been fertile and flourishing. If there is no rain for a year in Chennai, the drinking water scarcity will be rampant in the city. The sun’s heat may become unbearable making people’s survival tough.

Similar to how God has graciously given the rain and snow to the world, He has also given you the Scripture verses. During the Sunday services, He pours His Word on you like rain. You receive many verses of promise there. Your heart gets refreshed.

Firstly, God says, “I will cause showers to come down in their season; there shall be showers of blessing” (Ezekiel 34:26). For every season, God raises a prophet and enables people to hear God’s words which pour like rain. During his time, Isaiah rose as a great prophet. All his prophecies remained as promises of rain.

Secondly, when the rain pours, He makes it pour fully. When it rains, the earth becomes wet, the tanks become full, and the rivers make the agricultural fields fertile. Likewise, the churches increase in number, souls get saved, and flowers of revival are seen everywhere through the Scripture verses. It is the Word of God which brings the redemption of life in the nation.

Thirdly, when the rain pours, it pours on everyone, without any discrimination. The Scripture says, “…He makes His sun rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust” (Mathew 5:45). It is the same with the Scripture verse too. God has given it graciously to the entire world. If the man who reads it, looks up to God, he will get saved. Dear children of God, may your spiritual life also grow in a thriving manner! To meditate: “ For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and bears herbs useful for those by whom it is cultivated, receives blessing from God” (Hebrews 6:7).
