Sep 14 – UNDER THE WINGS!

 “…..a full reward be given you by the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge” (Ruth 2:12).

When you come under the wings of God for refuge, He surely commands numerous benefits to you. When you lean upon God, He enables you to find favour in the eyes of men. You might be knowing the history of Ruth. She belonged to the land of Moab. She loved a family coming from Israel and became the daughter-in-law of that family. But, her married life did not last happily. She lost her husband.

The Scripture says that though she lost her husband, she held on to God firmly. She came running to seek refuge under the wings of the Lord. Even in those days of hardship, her lips never murmured. She never complained that God of Israel had not helped her in any way and He had taken her husband.

When Naomi wanted to go back to Israel, her eldest daughter-in-law Orpah did not like to accompany her. But Ruth clung on to Naomi. With tears, she said, “…your people shall be my people, and your God, my God” (Ruth 1:16) and this touches our hearts. In a situation of darkness and a hopeless situation, she placed her faith in God and clung on to Him alone.

Whatever be the situation and whatever be the tests you face, hold on to God firmly. He never forgets those who come running to take refuge under His wings. He will surely honour those who honour Him. Though the first part of the life of Ruth was a failure, God gave her a new life again. He gave her a new blessing. God gave Boaz, who was righteous, as a life partner to her.

We find David coming in the heredity of Ruth. We also see our wonderful Lord Jesus Christ taking birth in the same tribe. God willed to write a book exclusively about Ruth, who was a gentile. When one seeks refuge under the wings of the God of Israel, the blessings that come in life are innumerable, great and eternal.

Dear children of God, stand firm in His refuge. Hold on to Christ alone firmly when the storm blows or when life trembles. During the days of famine, God exalted Elijah, who was in His refuge. Is it not? God blessed Job double-fold, who had held on to God firmly during the times of tribulation. Is it not? God will surely bless you too.

To meditate: “My daughter, shall I not seek security for you that it may be well with you?” (Ruth 3:1).
