Oct – 5 – SON OF DAVID!

“And Absalom dwelt two full years in Jerusalem, but did not see the king’s face” (II Samuel 14:28).

Absalom was the son of David and he resided in Jerusalem which is known as the ‘City of God.’ The Scripture says, ‘Absalom dwelt in Jerusalem for two full years, but  hedid not see the king’s face.’ Think over this.

Maybe, you might be residing in Jerusalem that is your church. You may call yourself the son of God or a Christian. But I would like to put a question before you. How many days have gone by, after you saw the face of the King of kings last? Have you forgotten that the greatness of the children of God is to see His face?

Even, all the animals look at the face of God. The wild animals look up to Him for their food. The Psalmist says, “These all wait for you, that you may give them their food in due season. What you give them they gather in; you open your hand, they are filled with good” (Psalm 104:27, 28).

What was the reason behind David’s son Absalom to remain hidden away from the face of the King? It is nothing but the sin and the bitter root only. He killed Amnon for the sake of his sister Tamar. In continuation of this, it became impossible for him to face the king. “But your iniquities have separated you from your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He will not hear” (Isaiah 59:2).

Absalom is called the son of David at the same time Christ is also known as the son of David. What a big difference prevails between them? The face of Christ was always looking up at His Father. At the age of twelve itself, He saw His Father’s face and affirmed to be in His Father’s business.

Only once was the face of the Father was hidden to Him. When He bore our sins and iniquities on the Cross, the burden of the sin of mankind descended on Him and the Father, whose eyes had not witnessed cruelty, hid His face to Him for a mere moment. Christ was unable to bear even that and He cried, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

Dear children of God, when the face of God becomes hidden to you even for a second, cry and return to the love you had in the beginning. Return to the fellowship of love which you had with Him in the beginning.

To meditate: “When you said, “Seek my face,” my heart said to you, “your face, Lord, I will seek” (Psalms 27:8).
