Oct 27 – Daniel!
“..Daniel prospered…” (Daniel 6:28).
Today we are going to meet a man of excellent biblical knowledge, wisdom, consecration, and a mighty prophet of God – Daniel. The Lord had given Daniel special wisdom and grace. The Bible records that he was found to be ten times wiser than all the wise men of Babylon.
What was the reason for such greatness in Daniel’s life? It was his resolve to live a holy life for the Lord. Right from the time he entered Babylon, Daniel determined in his heart not to defile himself but to keep himself holy. He resolved that the king’s delicacies and the wine which he drank should not defile him, and he requested the chief of the officials that he might not defile himself (Daniel 1:8).
One day, King Nebuchadnezzar had a troubling dream. He summoned the magicians, astrologers, sorcerers, and Chaldeans, demanding that they tell him the dream and its interpretation. He warned them, “If you do not make known the dream to me, and its interpretation, you shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made an ash heap.”
Daniel went before the king and asked for time, promising to reveal both the dream and its interpretation. When Daniel prayed, the Lord revealed the secret to him.
God is the One who reveals secrets. Among the gifts of the Spirit is the word of knowledge. When God reveals to you something about a person, a situation, a place, or a problem, you receive a portion of divine knowledge. This is exactly how the Lord revealed to the Apostle John, on the island of Patmos, the events that were yet to come.
Daniel’s determination is inspiring. Even when King Darius issued a decree that whoever petitioned any god or man other than the king should be cast into the den of lions, Daniel, out of love for the Lord, continued his practice of praying three times a day and giving thanks before God, as was his custom since early days (Daniel 6:10).
Whatever may come, Daniel resolved that he would not stop worshipping the Lord and never to bow before man. Because of this, he was bound and thrown into the den of lions. But God sent His angel to shut the mouth of the lions, and Daniel was preserved. The Lord exalted him in Babylon (Daniel 6:22).
Dear child of God, when you stand firmly for the Lord, He will surely stand on your side.
Verse for further meditation: “Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, and those who turn many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever” (Daniel 12:3).
