Nov 30 – Television!
“Now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I shall know fully” (1 Corinthians 13:12).
Today, there are hardly any home without a television. While television brings many blessings, it also carries many curses. Therefore, parents must be careful about what their children are watching; as many programs have content that are unholy and feeding to the worldly desires.
Once, a sister called me to pray because her husband was critically ill. When I arrived at their home, the television in the living room was showing a very immoral program promoting idol worship, and her two small children were watching it before going to bed. Meanwhile, her husband, lying in the bedroom with a serious illness, was watching an obscene movie on another television. And he could not stop watching the program, even after knowing that a servant of God, has come up to offer prayers for him.
In the past, families would read the Word of God together, pray together, and offer praises to the Lord. Today, television has gradually replaced these with corrupting dances, worldly entertainment, and devilish music.
Even those who claim to watch only the news channels, invariably switch to other channels which offer bad content. Many children, become so engrossed with the TV programs and get influenced by what they watch. They can fall behind in studies, learn criminal behaviour, develop bad habits, and become enslaved to alcohol or drugs.
Beloved children of God, be alert about the television programs you watch. Remember that watching immoral shows grieves the Lord. Guard your time carefully, correct what needs to be corrected, and turn back to God today.
Verse for further meditation: “So that He may see the evil deeds in your house and not leave you; may your children remain pure” (Proverbs 23:14).
