Nov 23 – Chosen!
“Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.” (Ephesians 1:4–6)
The Lord has chosen us. He has redeemed us for Himself. He has predestined us to become His children. How glorious is the fact that the Lord Himself has chosen us!
It is not a simple thing for someone to become a Prime Minister. First, he must be elected by the people as a member of Parliament. His party must win a majority of seats, and his fellow members must agree to his leadership. Only then can he take that position and lead the nation. Out of millions, one person is chosen to guide the destiny of a country.
In the same way, the Heavenly Council has chosen us. The King of kings and Lord of lords, our Heavenly Father, has selected us. Out of the billions of people in this world, He has chosen a small group for Himself. What a great privilege that we are among the chosen ones!
When did God choose us? He chose us even before laying the foundation of the world. Our election is eternal, rooted in the ageless purposes of God.
About our Lord, the Scripture says: “Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.” (Psalm 90:1–2)
How wonderful is this! It is beyond our human understanding. Even if we praise Him millions of times, it would still not be enough!
Becoming a child of God did not happen by accident. It was determined and foreknown in the eternal counsel of God. Today we hear of the gospel being preached everywhere, but when we heard it, the Holy Spirit moved in our hearts to believe. He gave us the willingness to surrender our lives to Jesus. We confessed our sins and received salvation. This is the meaning of being known and chosen by God.
Dear child of God, the Father has known you and entrusted you into the hands of Lord Jesus Christ.
Verse for further meditation: “You did not choose Me, but I chose you.” (John 15:16)
