Nov 14 – That Which Flees Away!

“They shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.” (Isaiah 35:10)

Joy and gladness come running toward those redeemed by the Lord — while sorrow and sighing flee away. The Lord Jesus Christ alone can remove all restlessness and distress from your life, and He desires to do that for you today.

From the moment Adam and Eve sinned, sorrow and turmoil entered the world. Woman was to bring forth children in pain, and man’s days became filled with trouble.

“Man who is born of woman is of few days and full of trouble.” (Job 14:1). Jacob said, “The days of the years of my pilgrimage are few and evil, and they have not attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers.” (Genesis 47:9)

Even Solomon — though he possessed great wisdom, riches, fame, and honour — could not escape life’s weariness. He confessed, “I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind.” (Ecclesiastes 1:14)

But Jesus Christ came to redeem us from this sorrow and anxiety. He entered this troubled world, offering His precious blood as the price of our redemption.

“Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold… but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” (1 Peter 1:18–19)

We are no longer part of the crowd weighed down by distress — we belong among the redeemed! The Bible declares, “And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with singing, with everlasting joy on their heads.” (Isaiah 35:10)

If we truly belong to the ‘Redeemed of the Lord’, there is no need to be troubled or anxious. We can boldly say, “I have been redeemed by Jesus Christ. I am a child of the King of kings. I am the Lord’s own inheritance!”. As the wise man said, “Therefore remove sorrow from your heart, and put away evil from your flesh.” (Ecclesiastes 11:10)

The Word of God also assures us: “For your Maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is His name; and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel; He is called the God of the whole earth. For the Lord has called you like a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, like a youthful wife when you were refused,” says your God. (Isaiah 54:5–6)

Dear child of God, when many troubles and anxieties try to press you down, look to Jesus — your Redeemer. He will comfort you, strengthen you, and speak kindly to your heart.

Verse for further meditation: “Though He causes grief, yet He will show compassion according to the multitude of His mercies. For He does not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men.” (Lamentations 3:32–33)
