Nov 14 – ARE YOU THIRSTY?
“And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts” (Revelation 21:6)
The excellent blessings of the Lord are bestowed only upon those who thirst for the living God. The Lord calls those who are thirsty; unto Himself. If you are thirsty in spiritual matters and matters concerning the soul, the Lord will quench your thirst. The thirst could be in a physical sense or over temporal and sinful pleasures of the world or it could be spiritual thirst.
Today, for reasons unknown, people thirst and pursue after money and fame. They are not satisfied even when they accumulate great riches. Many youngsters’ thirst after lusts of the world get enslaved in adultery and fornication, and into drunkenness. Man’s heart is full of thirst, and those who do not know the greatness of spiritual thirst, wander after lustful deeds and destroy themselves.
But we are pleasantly surprised to observe the thirst of King David. He says; “As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?” (Psalm 42:1-2). Again, he says, with a deep longing: “O God, You are my God; early will I seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water” (Psalm 63:1).
The Lord fills those who are thirsty with His presence and glory. The heavenly river; the Holy Spirit also flows swiftly only toward those who are thirsty, and satisfies all the longing of their souls. And they will never have to thirst after worldly things.
When the Samaritan woman met the Lord, He said; “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again. But whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:13-14). The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw” (John 4:15).
Children of God, will you also come to the Lord’s presence with a deep longing in your heart? Will you ask for the Holy Spirit; the river of living water from heaven and for the Lord’s presence? The Lord is willing to fill every vessel that is extended out to Him with a deep longing in his or her heart.
Verse for further meditation: “Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price” (Isaiah 55:1).
