Nov 06 – Hope Will Never Be in Vain!
“Our fathers trusted in You; they trusted, and You delivered them. They cried to You, and were delivered; they trusted in You, and were not ashamed.” (Psalm 22:4–5)
King David reflected deeply on the lives of his forefathers and saw that none of their hopes in God ever failed. Every one of them who trusted in the Lord was delivered and blessed. Yes, our trust in the Lord will never be in vain.
Job, the man of faith, placed his entire confidence in God. With unshakable trust, he declared, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.” (Job 13:15)
Even when his body was afflicted, his wife mocked him, and his friends ridiculed him, Job’s faith remained steadfast in the Lord.
The Scripture says, “He who trusts in the Lord will prosper”. True to these words, Job’s latter days were far more blessed than his beginnings.
Did Abraham’s hope fail? Certainly not. He waited patiently for twenty-five long years, trusting that God would give him the promised heir. Even when his body was “as good as dead,” and Sarah’s womb barren, his faith did not waver.
“He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.” (Romans 4:20–21)
And his faith was rewarded — Isaac, whose name means laughter, was born. Through Isaac, the entire nation of Israel came forth!
Consider also the life of Joseph. He had one unshakable hope — that God would one day bring the children of Israel out of Egypt into the Promised Land. In that faith, he made his brothers swear to carry his bones to Canaan (Genesis 50:24–25). That hope did not fail. After more than four hundred years, when Israel left Egypt, they carried Joseph’s bones all the way through the wilderness and buried them in Canaan. His hope endured!
Did the faith of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego in the fiery furnace, go in vain? No!
Did the hope of blind Bartimaeus’ waste away, when he cried out again and again to Jesus? No! The Lord opened his eyes.
Dear child of God, your hope, too, will never be in vain! The God who was faithful to Job, Abraham, Joseph, and countless others will not fail you.
Verse for further meditation: “I have trusted in the Lord; I shall not slip.” (Psalm 26:1)
