Nov 05 – Make a Decision!
“I have purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.” (Psalm 17:3)
Life itself is made up of decisions. Every single day, we make countless decisions — from small ones like what to wear or cook, to major ones about children’s education, jobs, or marriage.
For some people, the word “decision” reminds them only of New Year resolutions. At the end of the year, they hurriedly say, “Lord, in the new year I’ll read the Bible regularly, pray faithfully, and attend church consistently.” But within a few days, these resolutions are forgotten and fade away.
When you make a wholehearted decision for God, He too will stand with you wholeheartedly, bless you, and exalt you.
Let’s look at three people in the Bible who made powerful decisions:
- Jacob’s decision — to give tithes.
Before making this commitment, Jacob made a vow to the Lord, saying: “If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on, so that I come back to my father’s house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God… and of all that You give me I will surely give a tenth to You.” (Genesis 28:20–22)
When we decide to give to God, it should not be out of condition or compulsion, but from love. When we do so, God fulfills His promise: “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse… and try Me now in this… if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.” (Malachi 3:10)
- David’s decision — to meditate on God’s Word.
David determined to read, meditate on, and live according to Scripture, and said: “I will meditate on Your precepts, and contemplate Your ways. I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.” (Psalm 119:15–16)
Those who live by God’s Word are indeed blessed. Reading and meditating on Scripture daily is our spiritual duty and delight.
- Daniel’s decision — to live a holy life.
“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank.” (Daniel 1:8)
Dear child of God, what kind of decisions are you taking today? Have you decided to love Christ more deeply and serve Him faithfully? Make a firm resolution to walk closely with the Lord every day!
Verse for further meditation: “When you make a vow to God, do not delay to pay it; for He has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you have vowed.” (Ecclesiastes 5:4)
