Nov 04 – Who Is There for Me!
“Now put down a pledge for me with Yourself. Who is he who will shake hands with me?” (Job 17:3)
Many people are disheartened when they feel alone — when no one understands their struggles, when no one lends a hand in times of trouble. Even Job, a righteous man, cried out, “Who is he who will shake hands with me?” Then he turned to God and prayed, “Lord, put down a pledge for me with Yourself.”
A similar situation once happened in my father’s life. He was working as a mathematics teacher in a government school when an employment test for a position in the Income Tax Department was announced. He wrote the exam well and had good chances of being selected.
However, the letter inviting him for the interview reached him after the scheduled date had already passed. His heart sank. With deep disappointment, he cried out to God, “Who will help me now? Who will give me a hand?”
As he prayed, the Lord reminded him of a Christian sister who worked in that very same office. Immediately, he went to her home and explained the situation. She said, “Don’t worry! The officer conducting the interview is my superior. I’ll speak to him. Surely he’ll schedule another day for you.” She kept her word — and soon my father received the appointment. God had worked it all out perfectly!
In the Bible, there was a man at the Pool of Bethesda who had been paralyzed for thirty-eight years. With deep sorrow, he said, “I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up.” The Lord was moved with compassion and said, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” Instantly, he was healed.
The Psalmist, too, faced such moments of loneliness: “I looked for someone to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.” (Psalm 69:20) But later, having placed his full trust in God, he joyfully declared, “Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You.” (Psalm 73:25)
Dear child of God, never lose heart or say, “Who is there for me?” Instead, boldly say, “The Lord is for me!” — and trust in His unfailing care.
Verse for further meditation: “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?” (Jeremiah 32:27)
