Apr 13 – He Will Not Delay!
“For yet a little while, and He who is coming will come and will not tarry.” (Hebrews 10:37)
Delay is something very difficult to endure. When employment is delayed, a person truly becomes discouraged. Many think with sorrow, “If only I could get a job, I could support my family; but instead, reproach and humiliation seem to surround me.”
Parents weep and worry when the marriages of their children are delayed beyond the right age. There can be delays in building a house, delays in receiving the blessing of children, delays in receiving money that is due, or delays in obtaining a job transfer. Life is often filled with many such delays.
But today the Lord gives us this assurance: “I will not delay.” The Lord does everything perfectly in His appointed time. He never acts too early, and He never acts too late.
Sometimes delays themselves turn out to be for our good. The Bible says, “All things work together for good to those who love God” (Romans 8:28).
What we must do is this: we must not become anxious or impatient. Many people grow weary because of the Lord’s delay. Some begin to murmur, while others look for shortcuts.
In Exodus 32:1, we read the foolish things done by the Israelites, when the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain… Unable to bear the delay, they made a golden calf and fell into idol worship. Because of this, many disasters came upon Israel, bringing sorrow and destruction.
When delays test your patience, never seek shortcuts and fall into failure. Just as Saul sought out mediums and sorcerers, many people in times of delay run to fortune-tellers and occult practices. Such people cannot stand the test. As the apostle Paul says, they fail to recognize that Christ is in them (2 Corinthians 13:5).
The psalmist gives us this counsel: “Cast your burden on the Lord, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.” (Psalm 55:22)
And the apostle Peter says: “Cast all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
Children of God, do not allow your hearts to become troubled during seasons of waiting. “He who believes will not act hastily.” (Isaiah 28:16)
Verse for further meditation: “For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” (Habakkuk 2:3)
