Apr 01 – The Rose of Sharon!
“I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys” (Song of Solomon 2:1).
Today, God the Father desires to give each one of you the Rose of Sharon. It is a beautiful and fragrant rose—an incomparable and priceless rose, a rose stained with blood. That rose is our Lord and King Jesus. The Bible says: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
Look at the wildflowers around you. But then look carefully and reverently at the Rose of Sharon. Jesus Christ is called the Bright and Morning Star. He is called the Lover of the soul. He is described as a cluster of henna blossoms in the vineyards of En Gedi.
He is also called a bundle of myrrh, a fragrant perfume, and a pleasant apple tree. Yet in this one place in Scripture, He is called “the Rose of Sharon.” Consider Him carefully. How can we ever describe our Lord Jesus?
The Scripture says, “My beloved is white and ruddy, Chief among ten thousand” (Song of Solomon 5:10). “Yes, He is altogether lovely” (Song of Solomon 5:16).
There was once a student who brought many roses from his garden every day for the flower vase on his teacher’s desk at school. Even after that teacher moved to another school, the boy continued bringing roses for him. The teacher’s heart was filled with joy whenever he saw them. But one day, the boy met with an accident and died. Then the teacher lamented, “Alas! I failed to give him Jesus—the Rose of Sharon.”
Jesus is not just any rose; He is the Rose of Sharon. The word Sharon means an open plain. A rose growing on a high open plain can be seen by everyone. People from the east, west, south, and north—whether rich or poor—can come near and enjoy its fragrance and admire its beautiful petals.
Jesus belongs to everyone. He suffered outside the city gate (Hebrews 13:12). He shed His precious blood for the whole world. Even today, He continues to spread the fragrance of the Rose of Sharon.
Children of God, because Jesus stands in the open field as the Rose of Sharon, anyone—sinner or sufferer—can come to Him and receive deliverance and peace. For this very reason, He lovingly calls you today:
Verse for further meditation: “Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
