Jun 29 – Dust And Heaven!
“And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man.” (1 Corinthians 15:49)
The Lord formed us from the dust with His own hands. He gave us His image and likeness, and made us living beings. This sets us apart as the most unique among all of God’s creation.
One day, God took Abraham aside and showed him a vision of his descendants. What a wonder! A man made from the dust would one day shine like the stars of heaven (Genesis 15:1–6). Abraham must have been overwhelmed with joy! The ultimate purpose of God creating man in His image and likeness was to one day clothe him with heavenly glory.
The first Adam was made from the dust. But the second Adam, Jesus, came down from heaven. He became the ladder of Jacob, leading many sons to glory (John 1:51). That ladder is the cross of Calvary.
When Jesus spoke of heavenly things, people did not believe or understand. So He asked, “If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?” (John 3:12). Jesus is the only one qualified to explain heavenly matters, because He came from above. The Scripture says: “No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.” (John 3:13)
As God’s children, we have a glorious hope. Though we are of the earth now, we will one day be found eternally in heaven, in the Kingdom of God. The Bible promises, “Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, and those who turn many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever.” (Daniel 12:3)
“There are also celestial bodies and terrestrial bodies; but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another… As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man.” (1 Corinthians 15:40, 48–49)
Dear child of God, “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.” (Colossians 3:1)
Verse for further meditation: “For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 3:20)
