Jun 23 – THE BEGINNING AND THE END !

“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord” (Revelation 1:8).

The Lord is the beginning and the end. One of the many names of our Lord ‘Beginning’. The very first verse in the Book of Genesis says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). Right at the start of the Gospel according to John, we read: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made” (John 1:1-3). The Psalmist says, “Of old You laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands” (Psalm 102:25).

That Poet Saint Thiruvalluvar was a Christian is evident from the very first Thirukkural written by him, which says, “Eternal God is the beginning and the creator of the whole world”. This he wrote even though innumerable deities and their names may have been popular in his days. Every one who composes a poem in Tamil, writes in praise of a deity, as the song of invocation. But Thiruvalluvar referred to Jehovah God as ‘the Lord God.

Lord is not only the Beginning but He is also the End. He is the “Amen”. The last part of the scripture ends with the word ‘Amen’ (Revelation 22:21). It is as though ‘God of the Beginning’, signing off the Scripture as the ‘God of the End’. Revelation 3:14 makes to meditate on the name of the Lord and calls us to praise and worship Him. , “These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God” (Revelation 3:14).

Look at the prophetic verses in the book of Proverbs, chapter 8. “I have been established from everlasting, from the beginning, before there was ever an earth. When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no fountains abounding with water” (Proverbs 8:23-24). “Then I was beside Him as a master craftsman; and I was daily His delight, rejoicing always before Him, rejoicing in His inhabited world, and my delight was with the sons of men” (Proverbs 8:30-31).

Tamil language is glorified as the oldest language that existed even before the stone and sand were there. But our Lord is Ancient of Days, and He exists even before the universe was founded and He founded the Universe. Therefore no one can define His beginning.

He existed even before the foundation of the world; and He will remain forever for the eternities. He is the First and the Last. He is the One who created us.

Children of God, you also make a declaration of faith along with David and say, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever” (Psalm 23:6).

Verse for further meditation: “He who made them at the beginning made them male and female” (Matthew 19:4)
