Jul 09 – He Delivered Me From All My Fears!
“I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.” (Psalm 34:4)
A Bible that was dearly loved by Abraham Lincoln is preserved today in a museum in the United States. When you open that Bible, it takes you to Psalm 34, which is a clear evidence that he must have read it very often. In fact, verse 4 is so worn and smudged from repeated reading that it’s easy to see it held special meaning for him.
Lincoln’s friends noted that Psalm 34 was his favourite chapter of the Bible. He would read verse 4 aloud, which says, “I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.” He used to read this so often, especially during times of national crisis — in the midst of civil war and political turmoil.
When fear would cloud his heart, he found refuge in the shelter of God’s promises — and this verse became his personal testimony.
Dear child of God, if our eyes are fixed on Christ, if we run to Him as our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble, He will surely cover us under His wings and deliver us from all our fears.
There’s a touching story of a child once trapped in a room engulfed by fire. It was night time, with thick smoke filling the air, and the girl was paralyzed with fear. But while all those who were there were struggling to put out the fire, her father came running. He called out to the child through the key hole and said: ‘Do not worry my child, I will save you’. And true to his word, he used all his might to break open the door, reached for the child and rescued her. The moment the child saw her father, she leapt into his arms and buried her face in his chest — completely safe and loved.
Likewise, in our moments of fear and uncertainty, our loving Heavenly Father does not merely speak words of comfort, He also acts with power and compassion, drawing us unto Himself. Time and again, He says to us: “Do not be afraid!”. This reassuring message echoes throughout Scripture.
If you want to be free from fear, trust in the Lord completely. As the Bible says: “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear.” (1 John 4:18)
As you grow in relationship with Christ and deepen your understanding of His love, fear will lose its grip on you. Cast all your cares upon Him — and fear will flee.
Verse for further meditation: “Cast all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
