Jul 03 – The Gate of Heaven!
“This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!” (Genesis 28:17)
Today, let us meditate on the gate of heaven. Just as houses have gates, temples have gates, and even cities have gates—heaven, too, has a gate!
Jacob, who had never recognized the presence of God in a particular place, encountered the Lord there and saw the heavens opened. He saw a ladder set up between earth and heaven. On that ladder, angels were ascending and descending.
But Jacob did not see any man climbing up that ladder. The reason? No human was holy enough to ascend it. Man does not possess the boldness or purity to draw near to the holy God, whose eyes are too pure to behold iniquity. That is why only the angels used the ladder.
However, when we come to the New Testament era, Jesus Himself becomes that ladder! He alone bridged heaven and earth. He opened the way for man to reach heaven. In his vision, John saw a multitude of people standing in heaven. Not only that, John himself received an invitation to “come up.” What a blessing that Lord Jesus became the gate for us! That is why He boldly proclaimed and said: “I am the way… No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).
The Bible speaks of many gates. In Revelation 3:8, we read of a very special one: an open door. “See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it” (Revelation 3:8)—says the Lord.
When man shuts a door, God opens seven glorious doors in return. The keys of blessing are all in His hand. He holds the key of David before us. The doors of the Gospel, the doors of ministry, the doors of holiness, the doors of prayer—all remain open.
Today, the Lord shows you an open door. You have walked a path filled with barriers. You have journeyed through struggles. There were times when you were stuck, and unable to move forward. But today, the Lord declares an open door before you!
When the Israelites entered Canaan, the gates of Jericho were tightly shut. But when they surrounded the city with praise, the walls of Jericho fell down—and the Lord opened the way. You too, praise God as they did; and God will miraculously open whatever gate that is shut against you.
Verse for further meditation: “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.” (Psalm 100:4)
