Jan 25 – The Fountain of Life in the Heart!
“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.” (Proverbs 4:23)
The heart is like a power-generating station. Just as electricity lights lamps, turns fans, and runs large factories, the human heart is the source of a person’s inner life. From the heart come thoughts, memories, and counsel. And the body carries out the instructions that flow from the heart.
In other words, the heart is the dwelling place of our inner being. When you receive Christ as your personal Saviour and Lord, the Spirit of Christ comes to dwell within your heart, to commune with your inner man.
That is why Apostle Paul says that “Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith” (Ephesians 3:17), and again, “Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.” (2 Corinthians 13:5)
A little child once said, “There is no one as great as Christ, and no one as small as Christ.” When the father laughed and asked, “How can He be both the greatest and the smallest at the same time?” the child replied, “Jesus Christ is the great King of glory whom even the highest heavens cannot contain—so He is the greatest. But He also lives inside my small heart, and so He is the smallest.” Hearing this, the parents were overwhelmed with joy. Yes, this is a profound truth—a great mystery: the Almighty God dwells in human hearts!
The heart is the place where every emotion arises. From there come sorrow, joy, amazement, and deep sighs of a troubled spirit. At the same time, the heart is the seat of our will. Our decisions, our obedience, our determination, and our desires all flow from there.
The heart is also the seat of wisdom. What Solomon sought from God, and what God granted him, was a wise and understanding heart (1 Kings 3:9, 12).
And the heart is the seat of conscience. When you enter God’s presence joyfully, your conscience should not rebuke you of sin. Scripture exhorts us to draw near to Him “with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience” (Hebrews 10:22).
Children of God, give no place to Satan in your heart. Keep it cleansed by the blood of Christ so that sin may never enter. Let the fullness of the Holy Spirit dwell in your heart at all times.
Verse for further meditation: “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” (Matthew 5:8)
