Jan 21 – In My Heart!
“With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.” (Psalm 119:10–11)
We must not only keep the Word of God in our hearts, but also live it out in our daily walk. Many people allow bitterness, anger, and resentment to dwell in their hearts. But those who give priority to God’s Word and commit to living by it will enjoy peace and lasting joy.
Today’s key verse is from Psalm 119, the chapter with the largest number of verses in the entire Bible. Each verse highlights the beauty, power, and necessity of the Word of God.
Many believe that Ezra—the scribe—may have written this Psalm. Scripture says of him: “For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the Law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach statutes and ordinances in Israel…Ezra the priest, the scribe, expert in the words of the commandments of the LORD.” (Ezra 7:10–11)
God has graciously written His words in the Holy Scriptures as a priceless gift to humanity. Do you recognize the value of this treasure? Do you esteem it more than gold and fine gold? Do you taste its sweetness—sweeter than honey and the honeycomb?
When His Word is within you: You turn away from sin. You stand firm in faith. His Word becomes a lamp to your feet and a light to your path (Psalm 119:105).
Look at the nations of the world today: Every nation that honoured the Bible and exalted the Lord has been lifted up. And the nations that rejected Him have fallen into decline.
Queen Victoria once lifted up the Bible and said: “This Book is the secret of England’s greatness.” The Lord heard her declaration, and the British Empire was blessed—ruling vast portions of the world.
When a nation honours Scripture, God honours that nation. Beloved child of God, honour the Word—and you too will be lifted up!
Verse for further meditation: “Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD! Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, who seek Him with the whole heart! They also do no iniquity; they walk in His ways.” (Psalm 119:1–3)
