Jan 19 – The Rock of My Heart!

“God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” (Psalm 73:26)

When you say with worshipful affection, “O God, You are the Rock of my heart! You are my portion, my inheritance, my greatness, and my future,” it brings joy to the heart of God. Yes—God Himself is our portion!

Once a king celebrated his birthday by inviting all his warriors and granting them a special privilege. He said, “You may enter my palace and take whatever you need”. Immediately, the warriors and servants rushed in and carried away pearls, diamonds, priceless gems, gold, and treasures until the palace was nearly empty.

But one soldier remained standing quietly beside the king. The king was surprised and asked, “Why did you not go and take anything?” With deep humility, the soldier replied: “Your Majesty, everyone else has run away from you to gather treasures. But I do not wish to leave your side. You yourself are my portion and inheritance. It is my duty to protect you. Gold and silver will perish with time, but my love and loyalty to you will never fade. Let me remain with you and serve you faithfully.”

Hearing this, the king’s heart melted. He embraced the soldier and elevated him to the high office of chief minister in his kingdom.

Just like that loyal soldier, will we also look at the King of kings—our Beloved Lord—and say: “O God, You are my portion; You alone are my inheritance”? David said with devotion: “You are my portion, O LORD; I have said that I would keep Your words.” (Psalm 119:57)

All the saints of Scripture recognized God as their portion, their inheritance, and their joy. That was the secret of their blessedness.

Jeremiah even gives God a beautiful title: “The Portion of Jacob.” He writes: “The Portion of Jacob is not like them, For He is the Maker of all things, And Israel is the tribe of His inheritance; The LORD of hosts is His name.” (Jeremiah 10:16)

When God Himself is your portion, you are truly blessed. Like Mary, who chose the good portion that would never be taken from her, may you also choose Christ as your eternal portion!

Verse for further meditation: “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!” (Lamentations 3:24)
