Jan 16 – A Clean Heart!
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10)
When David realized the weight of his sin, he wept with deep repentance and cried out to God, “Create in me a clean heart.” Pause and meditate on those words! A clean heart—a pure heart—this is what he longed for.
If a room is locked and unused for many years, it gathers dust, dirt, and cobwebs. Only after it is swept, washed, and aired can it become fit to dwell in. In the same way, the human heart can become filled with spiritual dirt—sin, guilt, bitterness, lust, pride—when kept closed to God for years. But when we confess our sins, cleanse ourselves in the blood of Jesus, and allow the Holy Spirit to renew us, that inner room becomes new again. Only then do we enter into a life of holiness.
How do we receive a clean heart?
- Through the Word of God: Your life can be clean only if your heart is clean. And your heart becomes clean when it is filled with God’s Word. “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.” (Psalm 119:9) When you surrender yourself to obey Scripture, the Holy Spirit comes alongside you to strengthen and help you.
- Through pure eyes: A holy life requires holy eyes. Job said: “I have made a covenant with my eyes; why then should I look upon a young woman?” (Job 31:1)
Jesus said: “Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” (Matthew 5:28) Guard your eyes—they can stain your soul if left unchecked.
- Through holy hands: Holy living also requires holy hands. “Do not touch what is unclean.” (2 Corinthians 6:17) Let your hands be lifted daily in praise and purity before God.
- Through a holy body: A holy life requires a holy body. “Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God.” (Romans 12:1) The body is not meant for immorality. It must be preserved in purity. “Flee sexual immorality.” (1 Corinthians 6:18) Every sin is outside the body—except this one, which destroys the body itself.
Child of God, do not let sin rule over your mortal body.
Verse for further meditation: “And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.” (1 John 3:3)
