Jan 15 – A Heart Set Ablaze!

“My heart was hot within me; While I was musing, the fire burned. Then I spoke with my tongue.” (Psalm 39:3)

Meditation is what kindles the holy fire within our heart. Isaac was a man of meditation. In the quiet of the evening, he would withdraw to meditate on the Lord and His promises. And after him, David was the greatest man of meditation. He writes: “His delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night.” (Psalm 1:2)

Among all forms of meditation, the greatest is meditating on the Cross of Christ. The more you meditate on Jesus hanging on the cross, the more your heart will burn within you. God’s love will overflow in you.

A servant of God who was mightily used by the Lord once said: “When I stand on my knees before God, I often remain in prayer for three or four days. Every time I kneel, I see His thorn-crowned head. I count every wound and say, ‘This was for me.’ Tears flow, and the love of God ignites my heart like fire. The Spirit of grace is poured upon me, and I receive strength to pray for hours.”

Dear child of God, fix your thoughts deliberately on Calvary. Meditate on the blood of Jesus that cleanses every sinful thought. Meditate on His names, His attributes, His divine nature. Meditate on all the miracles He has done. Meditate on His powerful words and His promises.

David says: “My meditation of Him shall be sweet; I will be glad in the Lord.” (Psalm 104:34). Yes—there is a unique sweetness in meditating on the Lord. As you recall His goodness and the path by which He has led you, joy will rise within your heart. As you continue to meditate, the fire of heaven will descend. Worship will rise spontaneously. You will be moved to adore Him in spirit and in truth.

Every hour is suitable for praise—but certain times of the day are more precious. Early morning is the best hour to give God the first place and meditate on Him. Midday, even in the middle of work, is a wonderful time to remember and honour Him. Evening is ideal to find a quiet place and reflect on His love. Night too is a blessed time to meditate on Him.

Set your heart on meditation, and God will fill it with holy fire.

Verse for further meditation: “When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches.” (Psalm 63:6)
