Jan 08 – The Fear of You!

“And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be on every beast of the earth, on every bird of the air…” (Genesis 9:2).

The promise God gave to Noah’s family is the same promise He gives to you in this new year. You do not need to fear any creature that moves on the earth.

You may say, “I’m afraid of dogs,” or “I fear that a charging cow may knock me down.” But when you are in Christ, you have no reason to fear such things. Scripture says: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7).

What was the secret behind David’s courage when he faced lions, bears, Goliath, and the Philistines? He himself says: “I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears” (Psalm 34:4). And again: “The righteous are bold as a lion” (Proverbs 28:1).

When a snake hisses at you, it is not displaying its bravery—it is reacting in fear, trying to defend itself. A dog chases you only when you run in fear; if you stand your ground and pick up a stone, it flees. We see how mighty elephants obey human commands, carrying heavy logs; even strong bulls pull the ploughs and carts for men.

When a person is filled with the Holy Spirit, he receives power not only over animals but also over evil spirits. The Lord has given authority to trample serpents and scorpions. He declares: “You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.” (Psalm 91:13)

Satan has no victory. At Calvary, the Lord crushed his head and utterly defeated him. Christ, the Son of God, appeared to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8). Scripture says: “…that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” (Hebrews 2:14–15)

Dear children of God, when the natural authority and dominion God has given you combines with the power of the Holy Spirit, you can accomplish mighty things for the glory of God.

Verse for further meditation: “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents…” (Mark 16:17–18).
