Feb 23 – The Lord Is Good!
“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him!” (Psalm 34:8)
Gaze upon our beloved Lord with love and, from your heart, praise Him for a few moments saying, “Lord, You are good—You are good.” Sing and exalt Him as the Good One, the Mighty One, and the All-sufficient One. Because He is good, He pours out immeasurable goodness upon us.
We must not stop with merely saying that He is good in words alone. In every experience of our lives, we must taste and see that He is good. If we appreciate and praise a person who prepares an ordinary meal after tasting it, how much more necessary it is for us to taste and experience the goodness of the Lord!
When David was a young man, he tasted that the Lord is good. When he was a shepherd, he tasted that the Lord is good. When he defeated Goliath, he tasted that the Lord is good. Whenever the Lord comforted him like a mother, he tasted that the Lord is good. The same Lord whom David tasted now lovingly invites us also to taste and experience Him.
When we taste the Lord and declare that He is good, we also taste His grace along with it. We read in Scripture: “For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, and abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You.” (Psalm 86:5)
In the Bible, not only is God repeatedly described as good, but His goodness is also closely linked with His mercy in many passages.
We see many people in the world who only appear to be good. They speak sweet words, and our hearts easily trust them. But one day, when their true nature is revealed and their evil traits emerge like a striking serpent, we are left shaken and distressed.
The Word of God says: “As it is written: ‘There is none righteous, no, not one; there is none who understands;
there is none who seeks after God. They have all turned aside; they have together become unprofitable; there is none who does good, no, not one.’” (Romans 3:10–12). And again: “No one is good but One, that is, God.” (Luke 18:19)
When many problems arise in your life, Satan schemes to make you doubt whether the Lord is truly good. Consider this example: when an artist begins painting a masterpiece, at first it may look like nothing more than scattered and meaningless lines. Seeing it halfway through, one might even think the painting is not good at all. But if you wait patiently and look at it at the end, even those lines that once seemed unattractive become beautiful and meaningful.
Beloved children of God, if you patiently observe the work of the Lord, in the end you will understand that He has worked all things for good—and you will know that He is truly good.
Verse for further meditation: “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
