Feb 19 – Not Worthy!
“I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies and of all the truth which You have shown Your servant.” (Genesis 32:10)
Read these words of Jacob again and again. From them, we can clearly understand the condition of his heart. His heart was filled with deep humility and grateful thanksgiving. Humility and praise are qualities that melt the heart of the Lord.
Throughout Scripture, we see that the Lord exalts the humble. Look at the humility of David. David humbled himself before the Lord and said, “Who am I, O Lord God? And what is my house, that You have brought me this far?” (2 Samuel 7:18).
Look at Solomon. He humbled himself and said, “Now, O Lord my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in” (1 Kings 3:7).
When Jesus came to be baptized by John the Baptist, John greatly humbled himself and said, “I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?” (Matthew 3:14).
Look at the centurion. He said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed.” (Matthew 8:8)
Look at the Canaanite woman. She humbled herself and said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” (Matthew 15:27)
See how the apostle Paul humbled himself: “This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.” (1 Timothy 1:15)
All who humble themselves deeply in the presence of God will surely be blessed by Him. Let your heart always be filled with praise and thanksgiving. Look upon the gracious face of Jesus Christ and keep saying, “Father, I thank You.” When you do so, you will inherit every spiritual blessing that comes from above.
When you go to the house of the Lord, guard yourself so that your walk, your dress, and your conduct do not reflect pride. Walk humbly among the brethren. Enter the house of the Lord with a thankful heart, and praise Him from the depths of your soul.
Verse for further meditation: “Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! Let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare His works with rejoicing.” (Psalm 107:21–22)
